The Long and Winding Road to
Becoming an Author
OUR FEATURED SPEAKER

Kathleen Kent
New York Times Best Selling Author
Kathleen’s plan while attending UT was to become a novelist. Her father, a very practical man, asked if she was ready to be a starving artist. She bowed to his wisdom, changed her major to business and worked in NYC for 20 years. First in commodity trading for ten years and then as a civilian contractor to the US Dept. of Defense in the former Soviet Union for ten years.
She retired in 2000, moved her family back to Texas and began writing full time. It was a dream she never fully relinquished. It took her five years to complete her first novel, The Heretic’s Daughter, now in its 12th printing.
This novel was followed by two more historical works of fiction, The Traitor’s Wife and The Outcast’s. Her Edgar Nominated crime trilogy–The Dime, The Burn and The Pledge soon followed. She just published Black Wolf, a Russian spy thriller, which is loosely based on her years working with the Dept. of Defense.
Today you will hear her story about how to never give up on your dream. She uses her real life experiences to spark her ideas for her books.
